I started with a blue coloured background, which is the AND VELVET APPLICATIONS traditional colour for Maria. On this background there are rose branches curling around the body, with rose hips but without thorns. All over the dress there are drops of blood like red coloured teardrops. Tese drops are not depicted as real blood but more like symbols and a decorative pattern. Tey resemble the same form as teardrops and rose petals, and function also as a reference to the Weeping Madonna and the Man of Sorrow. FAI INSPIRATION Inspired in the typical dutch outft from the Schenoningen and the towns of the Zeland region in the southwest area of the country.
