BIOGRAPHY Juha Viirilä was born in 1950 in Raahe, Finland. He studied at Umeå University in Sweden and has been a professional artist since 1992. He has staged several JUHA exhibitions in Finland, in cities such as Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, and has also mounted exhibitions in collaboration with other artists all over Europe, for VIIRILÄ example in Prague, St Petersburg and Barcelona. www.studiojuhaviirila.com ARTIST STATEMENT I try to create elegantly simple, visual and colourful paintings. I also use strong lines and powerful contrasts. In most of my work I use powerful and efective colours, such as black, white and particularly red. Women are the most frequent subject of my paintings. title: Women are one of the assets of the EU and of other parts of the world, and I have tried to refect this in my work. One of the most important things in the EU is TOGETHERNESS cooperation between European nations in terms of the economy and politics; this protects peace in Europe and brings nations and cultures closer to each other. technique: ACRYLIC FAI INSPIRATION Inspired in the warm garments worn by the people from Lapland, one of the less populated regions in Europe.
