BIOGRAPHY Jim Avignon (born 1966 in Munich, Germany) is one of the most unusual fgures in the contemporary German art scene. His multiple personalities painter/musician/ JIM performer/organizer/curator forged Avignon’s very own profession, keeping him on his toes every single day. He currently resides in New York, but usually he is active AVIGNON somewhere around the world, rarely where one would assume. His paintings are a mash up of cartoonish fguration, expressionist composition and dominantly featured titles—always in line with the mantra “a maximum of expression with a minimum of lines”. While some of his works are already part of larger collections and museums, Avignon still prefers to exhibit in clubs, bars or on the street. His art remains afordable and is meant for everyone. With his paintings he criticizes inequality and social injustice, not without incorporating dark humor. www.jimavignon.com ARTIST STATEMENT title: EUROPE DON’T STOP To me Europe / the EU is less the countries and more the people who live there –so I would paint their faces- all similar but then all a bit diferent (in a cartooncharterstyle of course because that’s the way I usually do it) Tere is no connection between the technique: faces apart from the fact that they are all on the same ground. Tese faces have all kind of expressions, happy, sad, exited, worrying. Every face tells a story and all ACRYLIC ON CANVAS these stories are connected but the whole thing is still in black and white and looks very sketchy and unfnished, just like the situation in the EU. It will be the people themselves who will have to fll in the colors and make this design a unique pattern. FAI INSPIRATION Inspired in the dirndl which was born in the southern part of Germany. Originally, the dirndl is a simplifed version of the typical dress and all the towns had their own form and style of this outft.
