BIOGRAPHY Award-winning visual designer Charis Tsevis was born in 1967 in Athens, Greece, where he currently lives and works. His client list includes companies such as Nike, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, CHARIS Toyota and IKEA, advertising agencies such as TBWA\Chiat\Day, Saatchi & Saatchi LA, DDB Berlin and Leo Burnett Hong Kong, and media publications including Time, Fortune, Wired and TSEVIS the Wall Street Journal. Tsevis studied visual design in Athens and Milan, and he now teaches visual communication at AKTO College in Greece. He frequently contributes to prominent publications with articles on design theory, aesthetics and cyberculture. His work has featured in many prestigious publications and been exhibited in exhibitions, galleries and museums around the world. www.tsevis.com ARTIST STATEMENT title: YANNIS AND THE COLOURS Tis is a colourful, neo-futuristic portrait of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis was born in a middle-class neighbourhood in downtown Athens. His parents came to Greece as illegal OF GREECE immigrants from Nigeria. He has never visited his country of origin. Giannis was unable to leave Greece, but he did not belong in Greece. But this didn’t stop him from taking life on. He started playing basketball and he was really good. In fact … he was awesome! So one day he was chosen to technique: play for an NBA team in the USA. His dream had come true. But there was one problem: Giannis didn’t have a passport. In fact he didn’t have a country. But playing for an NBA team is probably DIGITAL PAINTING the most efective way to obtain citizenship. Giannis soon received his passport, his nationality and his recognition. Te black boy who had been a target for fascists and a source of fear for the ignorant had fnally made it. Today he plays for our national team. He’s fnally one of us. But is he? Sadly, many people don’t see it that way. Because the colours have to remain blue and white like our fag. But blue and white are Giannis’s favourite colours. He is more Greek than many of us. In any case, no matter what the colours of a fag may be, we are all made up of the entire spectrum of colours. Tis is a colourful, neo-futuristic portrait for Giannis. Tis is a dress for a colourful Greece. Tis is a dress for a colourful Europe. Tis is an expression of creativity, will, emotions and ideas.
