KEN BIOGRAPHY Kennneth Lambert (born 1971 in Ireland) is an Irish artist. He works in a variety LAMBERT of media including sculpture, drawing, animation and installation. His work is semi auto-biographical and many times personal experiences have given rise to sculptural objects, drawings or installations. Recently he has become interested in the play of color and texture and how these elements relate with sculptural forms. He is inspired by the geometric shapes of Fernand Leger and the paintings of Faragh Abassi and the the manner they elicit a consciousness about space. www.kenlambert.com ARTIST STATEMENT title: I felt it should refect the work of the Irish poet Seamus Heany who passed away last year. I took the poem “Te Tullond Man” from 1973, the same year that Ireland THE ARRIVAL joined the EEC. Leading from this poem I came across a talk that the poet gave in 1996 at Silkborg Museaum where he described his childhood memories of the bog and how he remembered a neighbor digging up an Irish Elk ‘which are things that technique: are a great astonishment to a child’. Tis struck me as something very poignant to ACRYLIC ON CANVAS both Ireland and Heaney himself. Afer reading a touching refection on Seamus Heaney by the poet Teo Dorgan I felt my inspiration reinforced. While working on this project I came across a book I bought a number of years ago called ‘Te arrival’ by Shaun Tann a second generation Asian immigrant of Australian citizenship. It portrays the story of an immigrant and other short stories of other immigrants purely in pictorial form. It’s a beautiful book and from this I took the image of the origami bird to represent the immigrant. Te birds are fowing in the folds of the dress but still are tied to roots that while they are growing their substance will always be the same. FAI INSPIRATION Inspired in the traditional Irish dance dresses, based on the peasant outfts, where men wear a straight skirt and a jacket.
