BIOGRAPHY Ioanna Voskou was born in 1976 in Limassol, Cyprus. She won a full scholarship to the School of Arts (Fine Art University) in Athens, Greece, where she took a fve-year course, IOANNA graduating with honours in 2000. Her major course was in painting, and she followed additional courses in icon painting, VOSKOU sculpture and wood carving. She also works with fused glass, stained glass, mosaics, etc. Ever since she was a child, art has been the principal – and perhaps the only – means for her to express her feelings and her inner world. Colours, lines and shapes have always been there for her to arrange in ways which allow her to communicate with others. Trough this interaction she is also able to induce feelings in her viewers, and hopefully to open doors for them and ‘make’ them see her imaginary world, as well as seeing their own world in new ways. Tis ‘invasion’ and the generation of new emotions in other people are a great challenge for her. www.ioannavoskou.com title: ARTIST STATEMENT MEMORY PATH Tis particular project gave me the chance to express what I value most in the world: technique: human rights. TEMPERA It is well known that the Cyprus problem still exists. Since 1974, Turkey has illegally occupied nearly one third of Cyprus. Refugees cannot return to their homes. Tese memories remain with us daily, as we try to maintain our heritage and protect and support our culture. Te colours were carefully chosen to show the level of hope that lives on within our hearts for a solution which respects the principle that a nation’s human rights must prevail. FAI INSPIRATION Te skirt is one of the garments that better identifes the Cypriot spirit. On this occasion, the skirt turns into overalls and the vest into a jacket.
